Winter Blues
I know it's a cliche, but I have found that, for me, a lack of creativity and drive is synonymous with this time of year. I’m not entirely sure that’s an excuse for the annual neglect of my blog; it is what it is. However, it definitely impacts my desire to write and bake.
I'm pretty sure the only thing I have baked this entire year is a giant heart shaped cookie for Valentine’s Day (I know, awwwww, right?). Last year ended with a bunch of stuff for our Christmas party and for Christmas. I tried out a new cinnamon roll and frosting recipe for New Years and I even wrote the post for it, (found it in my draft folder) but never edited it, never posted it.
2014? Nothin'.
Granted, this is not unusual behaviour for me. If I think back, even to University, I have always gone through these phases; especially during the winter. I have even been known to write short stories and poems about this lack of inspiration:
Inspiration
November 20, 2003
I have no inspiration to write
My passion seems lost
My pen lifts only for labour
My talent seems the cost.
I sit ready waiting to write
And think to myself quietly,
If only I had some inspiration
I could write a story quite mightily.
But inspiration I have not
And it seems no loss but my own,
For if I had but a tiny bit
A wonderful world I could have sewn.
What can I say? I've always liked irony. Granted, I don’t write enough anymore to look back on it with any criticism. Is it okay? Cringe worthy? It seems fine, though I might have a slight bias :)
Also, for anyone reading this, I’m still here.

Glad you are back-even if just for the moment. Keep up the poetry! I too have lost some inspiration. Partly because a close relative and taste tester of mine went gluten and dairy free. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteWinter just won't end here in the upper midwest of the US. It makes me want to mope, not bake.
That cookie was delicious! :D
